Hot Chocolate formed in Brixton, London in the late 60’s and released their first record, a reggae cover version of John Lennon’s “Give Peace A Chance” in 1969. Their next single, “Love Is Life”, was released in 1970 and produced by Mickie Most, the band also signed to Most’s RAK label.
After a number of singles their debut album, “Cicero Park” was released in 1974. The album contained some classic tracks, “You’re A Natural High”, “Disco Queen”, “Could Have Been Born In The Ghetto” and “Brother Louie”. This album is Hot Chocolate at their rawest, before they went full on disco pop.
The band went on to become more popular towards the late 70’s, when disco was in full swing they had hits with “You Sexy Thing”, “Every 1’s A Winner” and so on, all on their greatest hits. For me their early work remains their best, have a listen for yourselves.
