Battered Ornaments

The Battered Ornaments first started as the backing band for 60’s poet and writer Pete Brown, however when it came to the release of “Mantle-Piece” in 1969, Brown no longer fronted the band. Even though Brown had been kicked out of the band, his presences was still felt as he had written most of the songs.
Mantle-Piece, the bands one and only album, is a bluesy, psychedelic, jazzy affair with some interesting, quite playful and very British lyrics. My personal favourite track from the album is the excellent “Crosswords and the Safety Pins”, with some lovely drums on there, I believe Edan has actually sampled this track. Anyway, check it out for yourselves!
